School Accountability Committee

Mission Statement:

We have adapted and endorsed the Leawood Elementary School Mission that states:

“Our goal is to challenge students ethically, academically, artistically, and athletically. In a safe and caring environment, Leawood cultivates compassionate global citizens through a rigorous and well-rounded curriculum setting high standards for lifelong learning, leadership, and community responsibility.”

This year the teachers, staff, and accountability committee will be re-visiting this statement and either recommitting to it, or making changes to the wording.

The purpose of this committee shall be to work collaboratively with the Principal, school, staff, parents, community, and PTSA to:
Review and make recommendations for the Leawood Unified Improvement Plan (UIP).
Develop the Climate and Culture Plan which will be submitted and reviewed annually.
Discuss whether the school environment supports the implementation of Leawood’s UIP and Climate and Culture Plan.
Make recommendations for spending school moneys based on the current goals of Leawood’s UIP and Climate and Culture Plan.
Identify the schools prioritized needs and advocate to PTSA for appropriate resources (i.e. volunteers, materials, financing).

An Accountability Committee is Not…

…a mini school board
…a group that evaluates district personnel
…a group that makes hiring and firing recommendations
…a policy-making body
…a place to discuss your individual child’s needs

What does Accountability discuss?

Student Achievement (CMAS/TCAP, SPF, and UIP)
School Climate and Culture (environment, safety, health, and wellness)
